Resident Assistants (RAs) significantly impact and influence student success at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Tampa campus. Via the residential curriculum, RAs implement various initiatives that facilitate student learning. They are peer educators who make our communities the best place to live, learn, and work.
Some position responsibilities of RAs are as follows. Please note, this list is not exhaustive.
- Invest in the overall growth and welfare of each resident while facilitating a learning-centered environment that meets the desired outcomes of the Residential Curriculum.
- Remain available and accessible to residents virtually and in-person.
- Assist residents with personal, relational, social, cultural, emotional, and academic concerns while ensuring privacy, referring students to appropriate resources, and recognizing and reporting concerns and issues to supervisors.
- Recognize the talents and interests of residents while encouraging the exploration of new activities and skills.
- Educate residents about their roles and responsibilities in the community by explaining and utilizing community standards.
- Consistently enforce policies without bias or malice.
- Inform residents about campus and hall activities, including posting notices and keeping materials current.
- Utilize administrative tasks (i.e. Roommate Agreements, Fire, Health & Safety inspections, etc.) as a tool for education and intentional interactions with my residents.
- Facilitate regular intentional conversations and community gatherings as outlined in the Residential Curriculum and in accordance with supervisor expectations.
- Support all academic and curricular events that contribute to student learning in the residence halls by attending and encouraging residents to attend and participate.
- Support Week of Welcome events in both the fall and spring semesters.
- Assess the needs of the community and encourage full participation and integration within the floor, hall, and community.
- Inform supervisor of community trends and issues through one-on-one conversations/meetings and weekly reports.
- Support and attend events planned by other staff members, Area Council, Residence Hall Association (RHA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), and the Department of Residential Education.
- Participate in required trainings, meetings, evaluations, opening processes, and closing processes.
2025-2026 RA Application Information
Student Staff (RA) Applications for the 2025-26 academic year will open on October 22, 2024, and are available via the Housing Portal within the Employment & Volunteer Tab and Resident Assistant Applications and Forms. This application includes responses to short answer questions. The application will close on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 11:59 pm. Mandatory Asynchronous Informational Session
By Monday, November 18, 2024, at 11:59 pm, all 2025-26 RA candidates will need to complete a mandatory, asynchronous informational session and the associated quiz in the This course will be available by the middle of October 2024. The module concludes with a quiz that must be completed. We strongly recommend completing this informational session prior to submitting your application as it will provide useful insights to inform your application!

To provide additional support to candidates in this selection process, Residential Education will host two optional Q&A Sessions. This is an opportunity to connect with current RAs and members of the Student Staff Selection Committee to learn more about these significant leadership opportunities and the selection process. These are anticipated to occur on October 23, 2024, and January 15, 2025. These dates are subject to change. When more information about these Q&A sessions is available, it will be shared .
