Professional Development

We believe that ongoing professional development can enrich teachers’ expertise and experiences. We aim to bring teachers, instructional coaches, and school- and district-based leaders together in collaborative settings to continue to expand and refine the art of teaching. 

Professional development at the Anchin Center is aligned with research-based best practices, as well as K-12 state standards in the content areas. Professional learning hours are offered to participants as they work towards the completion of state recertification requirements.

Anchin Community Talks

We also host events through our Anchin Community Talks (ACT) initiative, which serves as the community engagement and outreach pillar of the center’s ongoing efforts to advance the teaching profession. Anchin Community Talks serve as a public visibility and thought leadership opportunity for the Anchin Center in its efforts to position itself as a go-to resource for individuals who aim to advance the teaching profession and solve the profession’s most pressing challenges.

Education for Justice Conference

The Anchin Center hosts its Education for Justice Conference each year. The conference brings together practicing PreK-12 teachers, administrators, and higher education faculty for a weekend filled with rich opportunities to learn, connect with one another, collaborate, and recommit ourselves to ensuring all students enjoy healthy, engaging, and cognitively enriching educational experiences grounded in justice. 

The conference features both keynote speakers and breakout sessions led by educators in a variety of contexts. We believe in the generative power of bringing educators, researchers, and community members together in service of students and education for justice. This conference allows us to do just that.

Advanced Placement Summer Institute at USF

In partnership with College Board, the Anchin Center is the proud host of the world’s largest Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Institute. The AP Summer Institute offers more than 30 different course subject areas and welcomes over 1,000 attendees each year to USF’s Tampa campus. AP Summer Institutes offer teachers of Advanced Placement courses an opportunity to expand their knowledge of AP course content, structure, and pedagogy.

The Tampa Bay Area Writing Project

The Tampa Bay Area Writing Project (TBAWP) is an affiliate of the National Writing Project and a partner with the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Consisting of highly skilled Teacher Consultants who are expert classroom educators from all grade levels and disciplines, TBAWP is committed to improving writing and learning across the Tampa Bay area.


Clinical Educator Training

The Clinical Educator Training (CET) course is designed to provide both school-based and university-based teacher educators with skills needed to instruct and supervise teacher candidates completing initial teacher preparation programs. The course meets FDOE state mandates for CET and addresses the following required skills: 

  • Applying the research around mindset to work with developing educators 
  • Conducting content planning conferences 
  • Being expert observers and diagnosticians of teaching and learning 
  • Providing evidence-based, non-evaluative feedback

In addition, the CET course at USF addresses the collaborative triad of support between university, school site, and the candidate, and it provides guidance to address mentee struggles and challenges as well. The course is asynchronous, work at your own pace, and consists of 5 engaging modules. The certificate of completion credentials teachers to host USF candidates and final interns in their classrooms.
