At the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL), our mission is to engage the USF community in practices that promote academic transformation and enhance meaningful learning experiences. We emphasize learning and teaching as processes through programs and resources that strengthen collective connections and expertise across the university to foster academic success. In our Annual Review of 2023-24, we share our extensive collaborations with faculty across USF to advance this mission.
We continued several key programs this year, including our AI-Augmented Learning & Teaching Program which made significant strides in promoting the ethical integration of AI in learning spaces. We offered 45 engagement opportunities, including workshops, idea exchanges, and a teaching with AI course that enrolled over 200 faculty. The program also provided crucial support with syllabus recommendations and practical guides for instructors. Our IEP Program equipped educators with strategies for creating belonging in learning spaces, resulting in the revision of 19 courses impacting over 900 students a semester. We also prepared 278 graduate students to teach through our Teaching Assistant Development offerings.
Our faculty-led interdisciplinary Faculty Learning Communities brought together 54 members to collaborate on current teaching and learning issues. These communities produced multiple publications and a university-wide speaker event. We hosted several other impactful events, including our annual Celebration of Teaching, attended by faculty from across all three campuses, and the Course Design Institute where instructors revamped their courses.
This year, 42 faculty participated in our Peer Observation Program (POP), a non-evaluative initiative that fosters cross-disciplinary dialogue about teaching. Through a structured process of classroom observations and reflective discussions, POP participants shared insights and ideas to enhance student learning.
In addition to our programmatic offerings, we provided extensive individualized support through consultations and feedback sessions, and partnerships with academic departments to offer tailored workshops. Our team also supported externally-funded research on engineering education and published 6 peer-reviewed articles on topics such as undergraduate research support and inclusive teaching. We delivered 8 presentations at national and international conferences, contributing to the broader dialogue on teaching and learning across higher education.
Through these multifaceted initiatives, we made a substantial impact at USF in 2023-24, fostering a collaborative culture of teaching excellence.
