The School of Aging Studies held its 2023 Preceptors and Awards Reception in the MHC Atrium to honor internship preceptors and supervisors and recipients of awards and scholarships.
Multiple students were recognized at the ceremony for their outstanding academic performance and research in the field. Haley Campbell received two scholarships: the Kymberly Jane Harris Endowed Scholarship in Long Term Care Administration and the Tollette Family Endowed Scholarship in Gerontology. Samantha Zappala was awarded the Wiley P. Mangum Scholarship in Gerontology, and Tanjina Jailil was awarded the Harold L. Sheppard Endowed Memorial Scholarship.
Doctoral students Charity Lewis and Kristin Calfee are awarded the Wolowec Scholarship.
Charity Lewis and Kristin Calfee received the Wolowec Scholarship, and Chandy M. Coney was recognized with the Kenneth E. and Peggy Sponagle Endowed Scholarship. The newly established Kathryn Hyer Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Public Policy and Aging was awarded to Jessica VanderWerf. Lastly, the H. Edward Greely and Mildred Greely Endowed Fellowship in Aging Studies was given to Joanne Elayoubi.
Faculty and staff were also honored at the awards ceremony. Instructor Amy Corbin, MA, MSW was honored with the Sue V. Saxon Outstanding Teaching Award in the Field of Gerontology. Interim Director Riaan Van Zyl, PhD and Budget and Media Relations Assistant Lydia Hentschel were both awarded the Wiley P. Mangum Outstanding Service Award in the Field of Gerontology. Research Assistant Professor Lindsay Peterson, PhD, received an Outstanding Alumni Award.

A second Outstanding Alumni Award was given to Meagan Kopstad, LNHA, current executive director at Blue Heron Senior Living. Additionally, Daniel Frenden, LNHA received the Community Partner of the Year Award, and Mary George, MA, MSW received the Kathryn Hyer Professional Mentorship Award.
Lastly, the School of Aging Studies expressed their gratitude for and recognized leaders in community organizations who give their time and effort to provide School of Aging Studies students with experience in the field.
