Registered Behavior Technician Training Program
USF's RBT Program Ranks 2nd!
The ABA Registered Behavior Technician Training program has achieved the second-highest pass rate in the country according to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board for 2023. This marks the 5th (probably more than that) consecutive year the RBT program has been in the Top 5.
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training program is based on the RBT Ethics Code 2.0 and the Registered Behavior Technician Task List (2nd ed.) and is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement for the RBT certificate. The program is offered independent of the BACB. Once registered, you must complete the course within 180 days of registering.
Course Format
The RBT Program consists of 10 online modules, each containing a narrated presentation and a 10 question quiz at the end of each module. Additionally, there are 5 bonus activities. Successful completion of the course requires sequential completion of each module (80% grade on each module quiz) and a final exam (passing grade of 70% or more). You have 5 attempts to pass the final exam. Failure to pass the exam will result in failing the course. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate of completion. Once all modules are successfully completed, you will receive a certificate of completion indicating the 40-hour training was based on the RBT Ethics Code 2.0 and RBT Task List (2nded.), which will be needed to meet the additional requirements (see below) to attain the RBT certificate.

Initial Competency Assessment
Please note that it is the RBT applicant's responsibility to locate a BCBA or BCaBA (i.e., assessor) to conduct the initial competency assessment. USF faculty do not conduct these nor assist with finding an assessor for individuals who complete the 40-hr RBT course at USF. Additionally, the BACB requires that the assessor (e.g., BCBA; BCaBA) be employed by the same organization as the RBT applicant. (Please see Page 4: ). Therefore, if you are not currently employed by an ABA agency, we recommend you search online for RBT positions in the area where you reside and contact the agencies hiring to determine if they employ individuals who are in the process of attaining their RBT credential (e.g., have or are completing the 40-hr course). Additional information about the application process and other requirements of RBTs can be found here
