Contemporary Art Museum 鈥 College of Design, Art & Performance
The Assistant Curator of Museum Education is a 12-month, Assistant instructor non-tenure earning faculty position with a start date of January 6, 2025. This position reports to the director of the Contemporary Art Museum.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops and implements educational and public programming and tours related to USFCAM collections and exhibitions.
- Works closely with curators of temporary exhibitions to design tours of exhibitions and develop panels and lectures for students and the public.
- Leads photography workshop program for veterans.
- Directs and cultivates interdisciplinary membership in the Faculty Advisory Committee and realizes collaborative projects and programs.
- Serves as Faculty Advisor to CAM Club (student organization).
- Trains graduate students and CAM Club members to give tours of exhibitions and public art collection.
- Works with CAM Curator of Collections and CAM Preparators to assess condition of public art collection on all USF campuses and manages maintenance and repairs.
- Assists with identifying and applying for grants that support museum education.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MA or MFA in studio art, art education, art history, museum studies, or related field with a demonstrated record of achievement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience in higher education teaching or working in a museum.
- Broad knowledge of global contemporary art.
- Knowledgeable of current practices in museum education.
- Able to direct object-based learning and use VTS strategies.
- Capable of researching and developing innovative approaches to museum education related to temporary exhibitions and collections.
- Able to supervise interns and directed study students from multiple disciplines.
- Interested and able to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with artists, faculty, staff, students, visitors and community partners.
- Proven experience cultivating relationships, collaborations and partnerships with faculty and local constituencies.
- Knowledgeable of best practices in managing public art collections including maintenance and educational initiatives.

The successful candidate for this assistant professor position, in line with the performance expectations of an R1 AAU institution, will maintain an active record of high-impact creative research at the national or international level and will have ambitions to produce and exhibit original creative work that significantly contributes to the field. Their research agenda will align with the candidate鈥檚 guidance for the future direction of photography within the School of Art & Art History, enhancing the program's reach through innovative and cross-disciplinary initiatives. Evidence of the candidate's progress toward these goals will help identify a strong applicant.
The School of Art and Art History is dedicated to exploring the full spectrum of photographic practices, from traditional techniques to cutting-edge experimental methods. The ideal candidate will contribute significantly to our ambitious curriculum and help shape the future of our undergraduate and graduate offerings.
Typically, the candidate will teach two undergraduate courses per semester and mentor graduate students. They must be adept at developing new curricula and teaching courses that cater to both undergraduate non-majors and art specialization majors. They will also participate on service committees and projects at various levels throughout the institution.
This position allows for regular proposals and sponsorship of artists for our prestigious Kennedy Visiting Artist program, which brings nationally and internationally recognized artists to our community for periods ranging from a few days to an entire term. These artists will lecture, mentor, critique, and engage our student artists in contemporary art discourse and community building.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical and theoretical foundation, with an expansive approach that embraces the evolving role of contemporary lens-based processes in a global context.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualification Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization (MFA) with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
- A strong track record of lens-based research accomplishments, along with clear potential for contributions at both national and international scales.
- Ability to teach a range of skill sets including traditional and digital photographic process as well as historic and contemporary theoretical frameworks.
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level with a demonstrated ability to teach a range of photography courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of photographic processes, including darkroom, medium and large format photography, as well as current digital and experimental techniques.
- Proficiency with alternative photographic processes.
- Experience mentoring students at the graduate level.

Responsibilities:
Maintain an active record of high-impact research at the national or international level; teach two classes per semester (including a survey in contemporary art and seminars); supervise M.A. theses and M.A. Qualifying Papers in art history; serve as a member of MFA thesis committees; participate in program development and graduate teaching; and engage in service committees and projects at various levels throughout the institution.
We are especially interested in applicants' ideas for a survey course in contemporary art (beginning with foundational concepts from the late 20th century but emphasizing 21st century issues and practices) and for seminars on current artistic production, theory, and criticism. This is a full-time, 9-month, continuing position, as Assistant Instructor. In addition, there will be opportunities for summer employment.
Duties will include teaching two courses per semester and managing an audio recording studio that will serve as a teaching facility, and as a working studio to help students develop practical, hands-on professional experiences and gain knowledge. The successful candidate will offer courses that focus on the needs of music majors and students in a new Design program within the College of Design, Art and Performance. Additional offerings will also be available to the general student population. The successful candidate will be expected to serve on committees, and perform other appropriate university and professional service.
Summer offerings can include academic courses, professional workshops and clinics held in the studio, as well as Summer Camps for middle and high school students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Masters degree in music, design, or related field or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience that meet national and/or regional accreditation standards. Demonstrated experience in all aspects and mechanics of audio recording and sound design. Certification in Audinate Dante levels 1-3.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior audio and/or design teaching experience at the collegiate and/or secondary school levels. Terminal degree in music, design or related field. Experience with video and lighting design.

Position: Assistant Professor, Dance (Commercial). This position is a 9-month tenure earning faculty position with a start date of August 2025.
Duties: Faculty in the School of Theater and Dance are required to maintain an active research agenda and annually report on progress toward promotion and tenure. This could include commissions, fully produced work from major companies, commercial entrepreneurial dance activity or commissions. performing in major venues of both live and digital dissemination, and/or peer reviewed scholarly text. Teaching responsibilities will include two (2) assignments per semester. These may be comprised of a combination of courses and mainstage production assignments.
