Undergraduate
Advising
Successful advising is a collaboration between the student and the advisor. Advisors work with each and every student to explore goals, aspirations, strengths, and weaknesses, and to ensure an individualized academic plan. Students who actively participate in the advising process will not only have a better understanding of the university's goals, mission, policies, and procedures, but will also develop a lifelong commitment to learning and community involvement.

Drop-In Advising
We are currently conducting all drop-in advising virtually and in-person. Students may meet virtually or in-person with the English Department advisor for same-day 15-minute sessions. Students must check this page for all drop-in updates, including the drop-in calendar.
- Please ensure you follow the below steps to join in-person or virtual drop-ins.
- Walking into the advisor's office without joining the drop-in queue in Archivum will not be accepted.
- Drop-ins are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note that Drop-in Advising is intended for current USF students only. We respectfully ask that prospective students come in for full advising appointments or attend admission recruiting events, which are geared to provide you services when our current students are not in critical need.
How can I join virtual or in-person drop-ins?
Students must sign up for drop-ins in Archivum. In order to sign-up for a Drop-In, please login to the USF Archivum system and select "Get in line for a Drop-In Appointment" on the Appointment Scheduling page.
After signing up, please be prepared to receive a call from our office based on your chosen communication method (phone or Microsoft Teams) or in-person.
Please note, when we pull you from the list in preparation to contact you, your name will no longer show on the drop-in list.
We are here to help you. If you are unable to get onto the Drop-In list, please email englishadvise@usf.edu.
We provide email assistance as well to best support our students. Please keep in mind, during peak advising time the English inbox has a 3-5 business day response time.
If you are in need of an urgent meeting when drop-ins are not offered and all appointments are full, please email englishadvise@usf.edu with details of the situation. Our advisor will do their best to either (1) resolve the issue by email, (2) offer a time when they can squeeze you into their calendar, or (3) refer you to the appropriate resource who can assist you with the urgent issue directly.
