USF to receive $6 million gift to support biomedical engineering research

Christa Remington, assistant professor of public administration, just returned from the Fort Myers area as part of a study she鈥檚 conducting on the value of social capital in a disaster. She鈥檚 focusing on what鈥檚 called a 鈥渮ero responder鈥 鈥 individuals who are first on the scene, before firetrucks and ambulances arrive.

Warming oceans likely to shrink the viable habitat of many marine animals 鈥 but not all
The study, a culmination of 20 years of research by Brad Seibel, is the first to drill down into the relationship between oxygen, temperature and the metabolic requirements of vertical migrators, which include billions of marine animals from tiny crustaceans called krill to the six-foot-long jumbo squid.

USF awarded a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant to help build more equitable communities
The project focuses on the East Tampa Community Redevelopment Area 鈥 home to 38,000 residents and many historic African American neighborhoods. The university will be partnering with East Tampa community members to address disparities in urban infrastructure.
