Envisioning Sustainability Field Trip

Rosebud Recycling Field Trip

Led by Dr. Thomas Henry Culhane and Dr. Joseph Dorsey, the "Envisioning Sustainability" class recently went on a field trip to Rosebud Continuum. This trip allowed practical learning about sustainability outside of the usual classroom schedule. Through Rosebud Continuum, students had hands-on experience with managing waste and converting it into creative, reusable materials like glass pellets and sand, as well as exploring the strong interconnection between art and sustainability.

Throughout the day, the "Envisioning Sustainability" class participated in a series of interactive activities that provided them with deep insight into sustainability. Dr. Culhane emphasized the importance of local recycling initiatives and how they can play a substantial role in global environmental changes highlighting how community involvement and local initiatives can drive global change.

Transforming Glass Items into Sand

Rosebud offers a fantastic solution for those who wish to recycle glass but are unsure how to. Dr. Culhane showed us how used glass can be ground down into fine pellets, which can be further repurposed as sand for various purposes, such as landscaping or construction. Furthermore, the sand is also used to make eco-friendly concrete.

Transforming Plastic Waste into Small Pellets

The plastics we use daily come in various styles and colors. Transforming plastic into seed-shaped pellets is an innovative solution that repurposes waste into new forms, which not only reduces plastic waste but also helps in creating new products.
