Congratulations to the 2024 Spoonbill Bowl Winners!

  • 1st - P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School (Alachua County)
  • 2nd - Wharton High School
  • 3rd - Navarre High School
  • Sportsmanship Award - Barron Collier High School

Nearly 80 high schoolers and coaches from Florida participated in the Spoonbill Bowl competition with the help of 40 volunteers from USFSP, Eckerd, USGS, FWC, NOAA, and more.

The Spoonbill Bowl follows a round-robin and single-elimination format consisting of timed multiple-choice or short-answer questions. All questions are related to the scientific and technical disciplines used in studying the oceans (physics, chemistry, geology, atmospheric science, biology, etc.) and cover the role of oceans in economics, history, and culture.

The NOSB academic competition and program addresses a national gap in environmental and earth sciences in public education by introducing high school students to ocean science topics. This program prepares students for careers in ocean science and STEM, while educating them about environmental stewardship.
