Changes to Microsoft Teams

Microsoft has released a new desktop version of Teams (new Teams). The existing desktop version (classic Teams) is being discontinued. The new Teams application has improved performance, including faster startup, allowing you to launch the application and join meetings more quickly.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
We encourage you to switch to the new Teams at a time of your choosing before March 8. It is best to initiate this change when you are not scheduled to attend a Teams meeting so that there is enough time to complete the upgrade and update your settings. You can do so at any time by clicking the toggle (pictured below) in the top-left corner of your Teams app next to the words "Try the new Teams." You will not lose any existing content such as messages, file attachments or meeting recordings when you switch to the new Teams.

On or after March 8, if you have not already moved to the new version, you will receive a pop-up notification within your Teams app instructing you to switch to the new version.

When prompted with the pop-up notification, follow the instructions on your screen. Once you select "switch now," your current version of Teams will close, and the new version will open. After the switch to the new Teams is complete, if you have classic Teams pinned to your taskbar or as a shortcut on your desktop, you will need to manually remove it and switch it out for the new version. While your existing content will transition seamlessly, some of your other settings may not. You may need to reset your virtual background, display, notifications and chat preferences to your liking.

WHAT FEATURES ARE CHANGING?
There are several differences and feature enhancements you may notice moving from classic Teams to new Teams. Please visit the for a current list of features that have changed.
