The USF High School CyberCon is a unique summer camp delivered as a conference, where USF Colleges, Departments, and Student Organizations collaborate with public and private sectors to provide an exceptional week of cybersecurity education.

High school students (grades 9-12) from around the world explore careers in cybersecurity through hands-on exercises, engaging lectures from industry leaders, and networking opportunities with students and professionals. This five-day camp is designed to inspire the next generation of ethical hackers and cybersecurity experts!

Choose Your Path in Cybersecurity!

At USF High School CyberCon, campers have the unique opportunity to tailor their learning experience. This conference-style camp allows participants to choose from a diverse range of topics that interest them most. Whether it's ethical hacking, cybersecurity fundamentals, or advanced strategies, campers can craft their own educational journey.

Dive into Engaging Content

Throughout the week, participants will explore essential cybersecurity concepts through hands-on activities. Topics covered include operating systems, networks, vulnerabilities, open-source intelligence, critical infrastructure, and AI. This comprehensive curriculum equips students with the skills they need to excel in the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity.

Collaborate with Industry Leaders

Students will engage with industry partners from both public and private sectors, including The Neon Temple, Cisco, Reliaquest, the Secret Service, the FBI, and various USF Colleges, Departments, and Student Organizations. This collaboration provides campers with invaluable insights, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help launch their careers in cybersecurity.

Compete in Our Exciting CTF!

Join in on our thrilling Capture the Flag (CTF) competition that runs throughout the week! Campers will work in teams to solve cybersecurity challenges and earn points. Prizes will be awarded to the top scorers at the end of the camp, making this a fun and rewarding way to apply their skills and knowledge while fostering teamwork and camaraderie!

Registration and Camp Details

When does registration open for the USF High School CyberCon?

Registration for all 2025 summer camps will open on February 1, 2025.

What is the capacity of the USF High School CyberCon?

The USF High School CyberCon has a total capacity of 100 campers, ensuring an engaging experience for all participants. With each session designed to be intimate and focused, campers can expect a low camper-to-instructor ratio, with no more than 10-12 students per session. This structure fosters personalized attention and meaningful interactions, enhancing the overall learning experience.

Does my child need prior experience in cybersecurity to attend the USF High School CyberCon?

Prior experience is NOT required! Our conference model caters to various skill levels in cybersecurity. However, students should be prepared to pick and choose which sessions they want to attend and feel comfortable participating in those discussions.

Will my child need a device for the USF High School CyberCon?

Yes, every camper will need a device for the camp. We strongly encourage your child to bring their own laptop, as they will be most comfortable using their own device during sessions. While we do have a limited number of laptops available on a first-come, first-served basis, we do not recommend bringing tablets

Who are the USF Faculty/Staff that lead the USF High School CyberCon?

The USF High School CyberCon is a dynamic collaboration among the USF Office of Youth Experiences, the 502 Project, and the Neon Temple, spearheaded by Dr. Nathan Fisk, an assistant professor of cybersecurity education in the USF College of Education. Together, these organizations work to create an exceptional week of cybersecurity learning. We also invite USF colleges, departments, and student organizations to contribute workshops, alongside industry leaders from the private sector, including Cisco, Reliaquest, the Secret Service, and the FBI, ensuring a rich and diverse educational experience for all participants. Where is the USF High School CyberCon located?

The USF High School CyberCon will be held at the USF Tampa campus. We are in the process of finalizing the exact location and will update you as soon as it's confirmed.

What time is drop off and pick up for the USF High School CyberCon?

Our staff will be ready to welcome your child for drop-off at 8:50 AM in front of the yet to be determined camp location, with pick-up starting at 4:00 PM. If you are running late for drop-off or pick-up, please call our office at (813) 974-3355 to let us know.

After registering for the USF High School CyberCon, when will I start receiving logistical details, including drop-off and pick up times?

You will receive several reminder emails leading up to the camp start date. Emails will be sent 60, 30, 14, 7, and 1 day prior, each containing important information to ensure a successful experience at the USF High School CyberCon.

Residential Options

Are there residential options available for the USF High School CyberCon?

Unfortunately, on-campus accommodations are not available for the USF High School CyberCon. However,  we have two hotels listed below that are in close proximity to the campus and have been popular choices for campers in the past. Additionally, we’re happy to provide recommendations for nearby hotels and other lodging options to ensure a comfortable stay. Please let us know if you need any assistance!

Policies

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

USF reserves the right to cancel camps, in which case registration fees are fully refunded. If it becomes necessary for USF to cancel, postpone or combine camps, or change a camp location, you will be notified by email or phone. It is important that we have your current contact information. If a camp is cancelled, you will receive a full refund. If a registration is received after the enrollment limit has been reached, a full refund will be issued.

If you need to cancel a camp registration, please email USF Youth Experiences. If the cancellation occurs 10 days prior to camp start date a full refund will be received with the exception of administration fees. However, if the cancellation is received within 10 business days of the camp start date, no refund will be given. No refunds will be issued after the start date of the camp.
