USF InEd Studios' “Portraits in Patriotism” Series Nominated for International Webby Award

The series recognized among top five in the world, alongside entries from FX, Hulu, and Tubi

The 鶹Ƶ’s Innovative Education Studios has received another prestigious nomination for its work with on a documentary series with the USF College of Education – this time in the 29th Annual . 

The series, Portraits in Patriotism, was named a top-five finalist in the world in the Video & Film – Documentary category, placing InEd Studios alongside major entertainment industry leaders including FX, Hulu, and Tubi.

Called the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, the Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. This year’s competition drew more than 13,000 entries from around the world, with fewer than 12% earning a nomination. 

The series’ nomination is a powerful example of how university-based production teams can produce content that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the biggest names in entertainment.

“This recognition places InEd Studios and the 鶹Ƶ in the company of the most respected names in digital media,” said Jared Brown, director of InEd Studios. “It’s an honor to see the entire Portraits in Patriotism series recognized on a global stage for the quality and heart we poured into it.” 

Portraits in Patriotism features the personal histories of immigrants from politically oppressed countries and the powerful oral histories are available to teachers in Florida. USF education faculty have created curriculum materials for the featured narratives, with the stories presented as age-appropriate vignettes for elementary, middle, and high school students. The collection is on the state’s CPALMS website, a resource which provides teachers with curriculum standards, teaching resources, and classroom activities. Project leaders aim to give students a better understanding of how a democracy works and what happens in other nations with governing philosophies that differ from those of the United States.

Vote Now for the People’s Voice Award

was nominated for the Webby Award, decided by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, as well as the organization’s Webby People’s Voice Award, determined by public vote.

While The Webby Award is chosen by the academy, The Webby People’s Voice Award is a separate award, one voted on by the public.

USF students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public can help InEd Studios bring home the People’s Voice Award by voting online through April 17 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. To vote, visit: , select “Video & Film” and the click “Documentary” to vote for USF.

“These awards are sometimes referred to as the Oscars of the Internet,” said Gary Granger, senior producer for InEd Studios. “It would mean a lot for our team to take home the Webby as well as the People’s Voice Award because it recognizes the importance of quality educational content like you see in the Portraits in Patriotism series.  It also provides another opportunity for us to showcase these powerful personal stories.” 

Winners will be announced on April 22, 2025, and honored at the 29th Annual Webby Awards celebration in New York City on May 12.
