Providing an experiential learning experience immersing students in Spanish-speaking conversation and culture. |
Design experiences for students to have conversations with native Spanish speakers
around the globe who share their cultures. Create opportunities for students to practice Spanish conversations with their classmates and instructor. Develop learning activities for students to research Spanish culture and share what they learn. |
Video conference coaching sessions with native-speaking language coaches from Honduras,
Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Spain, etc. In the videoconference sessions, Global Spanish-speaking coaches reinforce language and culture topics students learn in the class and encourage students to participate in the conversation. Weekly Teams sessions with the instructor utilizing breakout rooms for students to practice speaking and comprehending Spanish. |
TOOLS THAT WERE USED
The course incorporates four main platforms: Canvas for discussions and assessments, Teams for weekly synchronous meetings, LinguaMeeting for coaching sessions, and Contraseña, an online Spanish learning platform. Contraseña provides interactive tutorials online about grammar and vocabulary for practice with interactive exercises. The Teams live sessions, Canvas discussions, and LinguaMeeting sessions allow students to develop and practice oral communication and learn about the language and the culture in context with their classmates and instructor.
