Student engagement was a top priority in this online marking course geared toward undergraduate students. The course development team needed to identify engaging and motivating design strategies in order for students to effectively explore and work through these complex marketing operations challenges. The instructor was interested in motivating students to explore the course, while navigating easily throughout the course’s activities. In addition, she wanted learners to make connections with real-world experiences in the International Marketing field. |
InEd collaborated with the instructor to create a travel design theme throughout the
course, featuring a digital itinerary that led students through each module and helped
them to track their progress. Students were presented a digital passport where they
collected stamps associated with the topics in each unit. This unique theme was integrated
throughout the course including overview pages, discussion activities, and course
videos. Interactive graphics visually depicted the course structure and connected
the topics to the student journey throughout the semester. Additional design strategies were used to further promote student engagement and interaction including lecture-based discussion prompts and Padlet board exercises, which allowed students to interact with each other and share project-related resources.
|
The course has a consistent design theme that is well-aligned with the topics covered in each section. This theme employs gamification techniques to encourage and motivate students to accomplish the weekly objectives. The instructor can now ensure students are engaged with the content and their peers through effective design decisions and meaningful technologies implemented within the course. |
