BIOGRAPHY:
Richard Newton, PhD is currently serving as an irregular warfare and airpower planner for Special Operations Command Europe. He is a retired USAF special operations and combat rescue helicopter pilot, combat aviation advisor, strategic planner, and educator. Between 2001 and 2023 he served on the faculty and as a researcher and author at Joint Special Operations University. He has also served as visiting faculty at the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies.

In addition to the GNSI, 鈥淣ewt鈥� volunteers his time as the Managing Editor for and occasional contributor to the Air Commando Journal, as a Senior Fellow at the Homeland Defense Institute, and as the Director of Project Air and Space Power at the Irregular Warfare Initiative. He earned a bachelor of science degree from the USAF Academy and a master鈥檚 degree from the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies. Dr Newton holds a PhD in defence studies from King鈥檚 College London.
