Dr. Sarah van Ingen Lauer is a tenured, Associate Professor at the University of South Florida where her research focuses on innovation in clinically rich teacher preparation- and specifically on equipping teachers to meet the mathematics learning needs of all children. Dr. van Ingen Lauer has directed the award-winning Urban Teacher Residency Partnership Program. She has also been PI and Co-PI of major federal grants from NSF and the US DOE, totaling more than 4.8 million dollars. She is a prolific author, co-authoring the book Teaching Mathematics Meaningfully: Solutions for Reaching Struggling Learners and has numerous research publications. She regularly presents to national and international audiences about how teachers can facilitate improved opportunities for students to find success in mathematics. These include how teachers learn to use research to inform their teaching, and how general education mathematics teachers can consult with special education teachers to meet the needs of students with exceptionalities in mathematics. Her national presence has included leadership roles for the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) and Chairing the Research Use Special Interest Group of the American Education Research Association (AERA). Her excellence in teaching was recognized by the 2019 USF Undergraduate Teaching award. She regularly teaches courses in mathematics education and teacher preparation at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. She has also partnered multiple times with Innovative Education to create state-of-the-art, engaging, and high quality online courses.
