Associate professor selected as President-elect of University Council for Educational Administration
TAMPA, Fla. (December 11, 2019) — College of Education Associate Professor William Black, PhD, was selected as President-elect of the (UCEA) during the organization’s annual convention in November.
UCEA is a consortium of 106 higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children. The organization promotes research on the essential problems of schooling and leadership practice and research aimed at improving the preparation and professional development of educational leaders and professors. Additionally, the UCEA plays a role in positively influencing local, state and educational policy for the benefit of schools and children.
Dr. Black is an associate professor in the College of Education’s Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program. He recently finished a 6-year term as co-editor of the "," a journal that offers a wide range of cases relevant to educational leadership preparation efforts across the globe. Dr. Black also serves as co-editor of "" book series, as well as works with his colleagues in the College of Education to promote multiple university-school district partnership initiatives. His research interests include leadership preparation and policy implementation with a particular emphasis on disability studies and English Language Learners.
When asked about his new position for the UCEA, Dr. Black says he’s more than pleased to take on the task.
“I feel honored and humbled to be selected,” Black said. “I feel like this recognizes the profile of the [USF] Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program and the contributions we make to both research and practice, both locally and nationally.”
In his position, Dr. Black seeks to continue the organization’s mission and work jointly with colleagues to successfully execute UCEA’s next annual major convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Along with making the convention relevant to the field, Dr. Black also aims to have the convention engage with local educators and leaders as well.
