Adaptability is a must in today’s evolving job market. Each wave of the latest technology has potential to alter the operations of virtually every work type. And those changes can be rapid and significant. Like it or not, this is the new normal. Industries must adapt to these dynamic factors because the speed of business calls for it. Workforce adaptability comes about through education and training—at times, learning new, marketable skills and, at others, learning to perform familiar tasks in updated ways. Let me briefly explain USF’s three-tiered approach to lifelong learning and a well-trained, viable workforce for the 21st century.
Fittingly, USF recognizes the need for early engagement as an important first phase of lifelong learning. Through a variety of programming, the office of Youth Experiences (USF YXP) introduces elementary and secondary-aged students to possible career opportunities. This exposure to in-demand industries and viable skill sets opens young eyes to potential professional pathways. Through the work of YXP, USF is providing an important service in the development of pre-college youth.
The second way USF is preparing the workforce for contemporary demands is by continuous professional advancement (upskilling) via the offerings from the office of Corporate Training and Professional Education (USF CTPE). By way of courses and certificate programs, individual learners and corporate teams receive education and skills training to keep their competitive edge in the modern-day workforce. The programming includes new technologies, cutting-edge methodologies, and leadership formation.
Finally, and through CTPE as well, USF places a high emphasis on professional reskilling. With fluctuating economic trends and industry disruptions, there’s never been a greater need for a nimble workforce than the present. Career transitions are more the norm than the exception in today’s world, and retraining can help that move to be seamless and rewarding. CTPE reskilling programs gives workers the chance to merge into fields, filling crucial roles to shorten the skills gap. This kind of workforce agility equips individuals with options when a career shift is necessary.
Being adaptable also infers having other prized traits. It means you are open to opportunities. It also means you are prepared when challenges arise. In short, it means you are ready for just about anything. A mindset for lifelong learning prepares us to be adaptable. And USF aims to be at the forefront of lifelong learning.
“Building a World-Class Workforce in Tampa Bay…and Beyond!” is a motto we take to heart.
