Second-year audiology student April Boothe was selected to receive the Marc Trychel Future Leader Award from the Florida Academy of Audiology. This award recognizes exceptional audiology students who are dedicated to their studies in their doctoral program.

"I am grateful to the professor who nominated me for the award, and I hope I am able to live up to this legacy as a future leader," said Boothe.

Her mentor, Michelle Kapolowicz, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, nominated her and particularly applauded Boothe for her role in the Speech Perception and Auditory Neuroscience Lab.

"In the early stages of establishing a new lab, it’s crucial to be selective about the students you choose to mentor, as they will significantly influence the lab's culture and dynamics moving forward," explained Kapolowicz. "With her on board, I am confident that my current and future students will have a welcoming and inspiring experience in my lab."

In the lab, Boothe serves as a leader, showcawsing an unparalleled work ethic and ability to swiftly grasp complex clinical and research techniques. She also shares her knowledge, mentors fellow lab members, and makes learning accessible and inclusive.

"Despite being early in her training, her dedication to advancing audiology through groundbreaking ideas and practical insights promises to leave a lasting impact on the field," said Kapolowicz.
