Six CBCS students awarded Trail Blazers Research Scholarship

Six CBCS students were awarded the Trail Blazers Research Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year. This scholarship supports graduate student research on the Sarasota-Manatee campus under the direction of their faculty mentors.

1st year of funding:

  • Madison Dowdy (Department of Communication Sciences & Discorders) with faculty mentor Michelle Arnold, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Discorders
    Taylor Fisher
    (Department of Criminology) with faculty mentor Roberta O'Malley, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Criminology
  • Emily Walker (Department of Criminology) with faculty mentors Fawn Ngo, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Criminology and Dasha Rhodes, PhD, LMSW, professor in the Department of Social Work

2nd year of funding:

  • Amanda Connella (Department of Criminology) with faculty mentor Sandra Stone, PhD, professor in the Department of Criminology and assistant dean for graduate studies for the Sarasota-Manatee campus
  • Cruz Reyes (Department of Communication Sciences & Discorders) with faculty mentor Michelle Arnold, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Discorders
  • Tram Tran (Department of Mental Health, Law & Policy) with faculty mentor Fawn Ngo, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Criminology

Engagement in research is an essential component of the graduate education experience. The goal of the Trail Blazers Research Scholarship Program is to support training through mentored research experiences for masters and doctoral level students. Scholars will work closely with faculty mentors, attend seminars and workshops, and participate in a rich intellectual and cultural campus life.
