Research Interests:
Child, adolescent, and family mental health and wellness; innovation, implementation, and best practices in service and system development; integrative mental health modalities; services for transition-age youth and young adults; biopsychosocial factors influencing mental health, resilience and wellbeing
Cathy Sowell is a clinical social worker and a faculty member in the Department of Child and Family Studies and serves as the co-director of the Child and Family Behavioral Health division. Additionally, she directs the Children’s Mental Health Graduate Certificate program and is the lead instructor and academic advisor for the youth & behavioral health focus area in the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Master of Science program.
Cathy has extensive clinical, leadership, technical assistance, and research experience, with a focus on trauma, grief, loss, resilience, child welfare, suicide prevention, and mental health treatment for serious mental health challenges and co-occurring disorders across the lifespan. She has partnered with organizations nationwide to support and enhance services and resources for individuals, families, and communities.
