Dr. Loni Hagen, Ph.D.

Dr. Loni Hagen is an Associate Professor of Data Science in the School of Information at USF. She studies methodologies on how to apply artificial intelligence and big data for social science research and government decision making. Her current research interests are in the domains of human-centered data science, social media, cybersecurity, public health crisis, and undergraduate data science education.

Dr. Hagen was recently awarded a Fulbright U.S. scholar for 2024-2025 for Japan to conduct research on human supervision of artificial intelligence. She plans to collaborate with the Department of Library, Information and Media Science at the University of Tsukuba on the development of a human-in-the-loop topic modeling system utilizing large language models (LLMs). She expects the project to increase the reliability and trustworthiness of LLM-generated output. She is excited to stay in Japan with her family of four this year.
